November 5, 2026
Blowing Rock's 2026 holiday season begins three weeks from tomorrow. Its biggest events all land in about 48 hours. Christmas in the Park & Lighting of the Town is Friday, November 27. The Christmas Parade rolls down Main Street the next morning, Saturday, November 28, at 10 a.m. Chetola Resort fills the same two days with carriage rides and Storytime with Santa.
After that weekend, the schedule changes shape. December's events are small, mostly at night, and they keep coming back to the same few places: the Memorial Park gazebo, Haven at Chetola, and the shops along Main Street. The Santa visits at the gazebo and at Haven each last two hours and repeat weekly until December 19.
The Christmas in the Park festival happens every year on the Friday after Thanksgiving, and the parade follows on Saturday. Everything on Friday takes place in Memorial Park on Main Street. The town has posted an hourly program for November 27, but it says the program is last year's schedule and likely to change. Last year's version had Santa in the Park from noon to 3 p.m., music from the Sound Counsel Quartet, Caroling Carolina Voices, and Surefire, and the town lighting at about 5:30 p.m. Plan around the date for now, and treat the times as tentative.
The rest of that weekend happens a mile or so away at Chetola. The resort's free Festival of Lights opens November 27. It puts close to 30,000 lights around Chetola Lake, including ice skaters, a Nativity scene, a colorful train, and Rudolph, and it comes on at dusk every night. Carriage rides around the lake run November 27 and 28, and you reserve a time slot in advance through Chetola's ticket page. Haven at Chetola hosts free Storytime with Santa from 5 to 8 p.m. both evenings, with gingerbread cookie decorating and hot chocolate.
Choose-and-cut Christmas tree season at area farms also starts over Thanksgiving weekend. The farms cut and bale the tree you pick. A list of growers is on the Watauga Christmas Trees site.
Parade day takes the most planning. The rules start well before the 10 a.m. step-off.

The shuttle stop has a coffee shop of its own. Carolina Coffee, which the Watauga Democrat called one of Blowing Rock's newest businesses, held its grand opening August 21 at 278 Shoppes on the Parkway Road, Unit 35. The paper reported that it serves 77 ice cream flavors, highly customizable drinks, and baked goods from a bakery in Lenoir, and that it's open seven days a week. On a cold parade morning with the shuttle starting at 8 a.m., that's a handy stop on the way into town.
When the parade ends, the season shifts to a repeating weekly pattern. Most of December's events fall on Fridays and Saturdays, and most stay within a few blocks of Memorial Park or at Chetola.

Santa's gazebo hours in Memorial Park fall on six evenings: December 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, and 19. At Haven, the Saturday visits are free, need no tickets or reservations, and come with hot chocolate and gingerbread cookie decorating. The Mustard Seed Artisan Holiday Market is the first weekend in December, Friday and Saturday.
Two nearby attractions also run through the month. Chetola's calendar says Tweetsie Christmas is on select evenings from late November through December, with the steam train running through holiday lights and Santa in a giant gingerbread house. The resort suggests checking Tweetsie's event page for current times. The town's holiday guide also lists Crazy Christmas at Mystery Hill.
Of all the December evenings, the Holiday Stroll is the one downtown builds around. The town's 2026 holiday guide puts it on Friday, December 11. The event listing describes a town-wide open house downtown, with shops open late and special guests and activities under the holiday lights.
The Holiday Stroll page still shows 2025 details and says they may change for 2026. Last year it ran from 4 to 8 p.m. The 2025 lineup gives a good sense of the evening. More than 40 participants took part, including the Blowing Rock Community Library with candlelight browsing, story time, a book sale, and music; live music at BRAHM; and a live nativity with carolers and hot chocolate at Rumple Presbyterian Church. Places like Six Pence Pub, Storie Street Grille, Sweet Mimi's, Blue Deer Cookies, and The Spice & Tea Exchange were also on the list.
The shop windows will already be decorated by then. Each year the town picks a Best Holiday Glow window display by public poll. Christmas in Blowing Rock won in 2025 for the second year in a row, and Funky Tulip came in second. In 2024, voters rated the windows through QR codes posted in the shop windows. Western Youth Network's Festival of Trees is the season's other downtown tradition. It auctions decorated trees and wreaths to raise money for local youth, and its 2026 date hasn't been announced yet.
The Lodge is a wine shop at 7815 Valley Blvd., where the Scotchman used to be, with a tasting room built for lingering. It opened September 25 and held its ribbon cutting October 21. According to the Watauga Democrat, owner Marlon Carias stocks wines from around the world, a rotating shelf of local beers, plus mead, cider, sake, olive oils, balsamic vinegars, and cured meats. The tasting area is built around a large stone fireplace and a mounted elk named Scotty, a nod to the store that used to be there.
Carias told the Watauga Democrat what he had in mind:
"I wanted people to lay back and gather themselves with their friends and family, to reconnect in a way that we normally don't do anymore."
Instead of tasting flights, The Lodge offers what Carias calls "tours." The shop plans guided tastings, meet-the-maker evenings, and seasonal pours. That lineup fits a month of holiday hosting and gift shopping.
The season doesn't end when December does. Appalachian Ski Mountain, at 940 Ski Mountain Road, marks New Year's Eve with fireworks, restaurant specials, late skiing, and skating, with the slopes open until 11:30 p.m. Chetola's Festival of Lights keeps running nightly through January 31, two months after it starts on parade weekend. Further out, Rooster's Wood-Fired Kitchen is scheduled to open at the redeveloped Green Park Inn site in summer 2027, and construction is already underway.
